1. Overview of AFA
AFA was established in 1959 by an Act of the Alberta Legislature.The Act gave a legal mandate to the organization to represent its members at the regional, provincial and national level for the benefit of all producers to create an atmosphere of co-operation and communication to ensure that areas of common concern among all producers are dealt with to the benefit of agriculture as a whole.
AFA believes in sustainable agricultural practices, the promotion of fair marketing and trade practices resulting in viable farm income levels and the maintenance of rural communities. Our mandate includes the provision of quality information to help producers make informed decisions.
2. Project Scope of Work - AFA's role
The organization is examining the future roll of AFA within the agricultural policy landscape in Alberta and Canada.
The Board requests that the successful candidate will provide a full and detailed analysis of the opportunities available to AFA including an assessment of associated challenges.
The report will examine all agricultural policy areas and assess who is engaged in the agricultural policy advocacy areas that have been allocated to AFA through the Legislature. It will offer recommendations for responding to issues and opportunities identified.
Additionally the report should address whether there are opportunities for interprovincial co-operation and the involvement and expansion of the membership base.
3. Timelines
A final report is requested on or before December 20th, 2023. The Project anticipates a start date of September 1, 2023 and an interim report for November 15, 2023. Applications will be accepted to August 25th, 2023.

7. Terms and Conditions
The successful candidate and team shall have technical experience, permits, and professional designations to accomplish the report. The successful candidate shall carry a minimum of $1 million professional liability insurance.
