2017 Resolutions

 

2017-01   Grain Transportation

BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Federation of Agriculture, through the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, request that the Canadian Transportation Agency conduct a Full Costing Review of Grain Transportation.
 

2017-02   Grain Transportation

BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Federation of Agriculture request that the Canadian Transportation Agency conduct a cost-benefit analysis of who should have ownership of and do the maintenance of rail cars dedicated for grain transportation.
 

2017-03   Crop Insurance 

BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Federation of Agriculture continue to urge Agriculture Financial Services Corporation to explore alternatives to the current risk area boundaries, such alternatives to result in more equitable crop insurance premiums among producers, and that this process and discussion be visible and transparent.
 

2017-04   Crop Insurance

BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Federation of Agriculture request that Agriculture Financial Services Corporation pay 100% of the value of the crop for wildlife and rodent damage. 
 

2017-05   Crop Insurance

WHEREAS AFSC’s Lack of Moisture insurance program is a good alternative to all risk crop insurance with significantly lower premiums in some risk areas, and
 
WHEREAS AFSC is planning to restrict Lack of Moisture to cover only non-binned crops (silage/greenfeed),
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that AFA strongly lobby AFSC to extend Lack of Moisture coverage to cereal and oilseed crops and additionally offer varying per acre coverage options.  Further be it resolved that AFA recommends that AFSC not reduce or negatively change insurance options without consultation and feedback from producers.
 

2017-06   Canadian Food Inspection Agency

BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Federation of Agriculture, through the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, lobby the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Federal Government to develop better emergency crisis protocols, procedures and communication in the event of a livestock disease outbreak to ensure that affected parties are kept fully informed.
 
Further, BE IT RESOLVED that livestock producers be reimbursed for all the additional costs incurred during the period their livestock are quarantined. 
 

2017-07   Farm Management Canada Funding

BE IT RESOLVED that the AFA and CFA support and advocate for continued funding for Farm Management Canada through the next Agricultural Policy Framework.
 

2017-08   Irrigation & Grain Drying

BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Federation of Agriculture lobby the Alberta Government to exempt propane and natural gas used in irrigation and grain drying from the carbon levy.
