2017 Annual General Meeting - Register Online

The area of carbon and agriculture is today’s hot topic. As discussions about climate change, pricing, taxes, levies and exemptions heat up, Alberta Federation of Agriculture (AFA) wants to help producers untangle this important area.

“Any discussion about carbon is a complex one, so we felt it was imperative that we host an AGM that deals with carbon and agriculture,” says AFA President Lynn Jacobson. "The 2017 AGM theme is Charting the Course: Agriculture in a Low Carbon Future. Producers who attend our meeting will hear up-to-date information on carbon challenges and opportunities for our industry.”

The AFA Annual General Meeting will take place January 17-19, 2017 in Camrose at the Best Western Plus Resort Casino.

Jacobson notes that the AGM is a great place to hear about issues and opportunities in agriculture, but he also encourages members to attend the AGM to make sure they have a say in the policy that governs the industry. At the AGM, resolutions will be tabled and voted on, and these directions will shape AFA’s efforts for 2017.

As part of this process, AFA members can submit a resolution in writing to AFA’s head office 30 days in advance of the AGM (email to: info@afaonline.ca). In this case, that means no later than December 16, 2016. Those who submit a resolution in advance still need to attend the January 2017 AGM to speak to the information and have it seconded so delegates at the AGM can debate the resolution and vote on it.

We look forward to connecting with our AFA members at the AGM to hear their valuable input. Your participation will help make our industry stronger.

Alberta’s agriculture sector has long demonstrated a commitment to environmental stewardship. Technological advances have helped reduce emissions and provide biologic alternatives to fossil fuels. The agriculture industry is also capable of storing or sequestering carbon in soils, thus reducing the amount of carbon present in the atmosphere.
